Air MOnitoring Technician Course

Initianl Course Session Time: 24 hours (three days) Test: At the completion of the course, a 50 question test will be administered. A minimum score of 70% or higher is required to for the course certification. Course Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED Refresher Course Session Time: 4 hours (one day) Test: Refresher Quiz - to review in class Course Prerequisite: Student's certificates must be current and in compliance with state and federal requirements to register. General Course Curriculum Course Objective: General overview of air monitoring principles and state of the art techniques. Apply for a Texas Department of State Health Services Asbestos license. Course Target: Persons in search of employment as an air monitoring techncian Persons who collect air sampling for OSHA personal exposure monitoring Course Content: Gerneral understanding of air salmpling protocols and theoretical understanding of airborne particualtes (gases is requested). Hands-on experience with current calibration equipment, calibration techniques, Calibration of actual low and high volume air pumps, calculations and documentation related to air monitoring, safety and protective clothing, respiratory protection and respirators. Practical do‵s/ and don‵ts within existing regulations. Other medical related information, air monitoring, laboratory analysis in general air sampling plans, and AHERA will be included in the course. Course includes: Calibration Schemes Calibration of Low / High Volume Pumps Respiratory Program Third Party QC / Compliance Documentation Calculation Texas Air Monitoring Tech / Client Relationships Ethic Preparation for TDH state exam
